Learn from the Street View
A great idea here from Stuart Jay Raj
“For those people learning Thai who don’t live in Thailand, thanks to technology you don’t need to miss out on learning Thai from the environment and the shop signs, road signs, street signs and things around you thanks to Google Maps street view. You can stroll through any place in downtown Bangkok and read the signs, check out the different fonts, read the ‘Help Wanted’ signs in the window and even check out how much a motorcycle taxi is to the ปากซอย ‘pà:k sɔ:i’. We should set up a sign hunt thing here in the group for people who can find interesting signs in Thai via Google Street View.”
This idea of Stuart’s is a great one for getting the feel of the place whilst practising reading skills, and can be the basis for many teaching/learning games.
Here’s a good place to start.
